Bach Ma National Park has transferred 7 scientific topics on the conservation and development of genetic resources. In 2011, the National Park completed a research program, inventory of mushroom and plant systems with 2,373 species, 5 times more than before and accounts for nearly 17% of the total number of plant species in the country.

In terms of animals, 1715 species have been recorded, 10 times more than before and accounting for 7% of the total number of animals in the country.

During the investigation, the study also discovered many new species of economic value such as conical leaves, rattan, bees .; find propagation methods of rare and precious plants such as pine, small flowers, reed plants; study the distribution of primates and propose conservation solutions; Researching and preserving medicinal plants within the framework of the project "Preservation of traditional medicinal plants" of the Institute of Medicine, statistics 810 species of medicinal plants .

With over 205,000 ha of natural forest, accounting for nearly 70% of the total forestland area, the forest in Thua Thien-Hue has a high biodiversity and also preserves many genetic resources of precious animals and plants such as tiger, saola, lim, hold .

Thua Thien-Hue established Phong Dien Nature Reserve and recently a Saola Reserve to effectively preserve genetic resources.

In the Nature Reserve, Phong Dien has a research program 'cooperating with local communities to develop management models' and 'building a model of forest ecological villages in the buffer zone'.

The research program has helped Pahy ethnic people in the two villages of Ha Long and Khe Tran, Phong My commune, Phong Dien district just exploited and conserved biodiversity of 520 ha of forest in buffer zone .

In the forest development research, a 1,454 ha buffer zone was planted to cover the bare land and bare hills of 10 communes in the buffer zone of Phu Loc and Nam Dong districts. New planting of 896 ha of special-use forests and zoning for natural regeneration of 3,025 ha of buffer zone between Bach Ma National Park and Sao la Nature Reserve .

The transferred research works have helped functional sectors to understand the biodiversity situation, propose solutions to effectively protect and develop precious genetic resources.

The study also contributed to training human resources for the conservation of genetic resources in the Central region. At the same time, create livelihoods for communities living in the buffer zone, contributing to poverty reduction.
