Two ancient treasures are excavated in Romania

Two large treasures include the newly dug up 8th century BC bronze and jewelry weapons and studied in southern Romania.

Each treasure has 300 and 50 kinds of objects in turn, such as a double-edged ax, a short sword and a spear, a horse's saddle. There are also jewelry such as head brooches, foot bracelets, pendants, neck bands, beads, hair clips. All jewelry is made of red bronze (tin bronze).

"Most things are made of copper, but also with weapons and iron tools," said Corina Bors, a senior archaeologist of the Romanian National Museum of History, said in a post summary. presentation at the annual meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists in early September held in Scotland.

The treasures were discovered in a small ravine, the southern edge of a prehistoric area, now called Tartaria – Podu Tartariei . The area is about 10 hectares, first discovered in the spring of 2012, when archaeologists studied before a highway was built here.

Many other relics have been discovered here, including a pit containing ceramic fragments and a burial site with several bodies.

Archaeologists say they have not identified who buried the treasures, or what the purpose of burial is. In other areas of Europe, these copper treasures have been found everywhere, in caves, under streams, swamps and rivers.

"Maybe this is a sacrifice for the gods at this stage," Bors told Livescience. Scientists hypothesize that a certain person or group of rich and powerful people buried these treasures.

'There is a basis to believe that those who perform this ritual are those who have high status in society then ,' Bors said, potentially a "warrior leader."

The method of analyzing metal elements by fluorescence of X-rays is being used to determine the origin of several objects. The results are expected to help archaeologists have more information about prehistoric trade routes, according to Bors.
