Typhoon Mirinae in Nam Dinh - Ninh Binh

With maximum winds of 90km / h, stormy winds poured many trees and electric poles. Rain after the storm can last 1-2 days, the risk of flooding in many areas in the North and Thanh Hoa.

When approaching the mainland, Typhoon Mirinae went slower than expected. At 22h on July 27, the storm center struck two provinces of Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh with maximum winds of 90km / h (level 9).

In the coastal district of Giao Thuy (Nam Dinh), the wind is strong and constantly reversing, throwing many trees, jerking some billboards. The rain followed every bout, when it was pouring, when it stopped. Most people heard that the storm was closed, so the road was deserted.

Previously on the way to storm, 2 fishing vessels of Nam Dinh fishermen were sunk by the waves at Ba Lat estuary, near Quat Lam town."Fishermen can escape and swim to the shore safely," said Pham Dinh Nghi, Chairman of the province.

Chairman of Ninh Binh People's Committee, Mr. Dinh Van Dien, at 21h, is still directing the flood and storm prevention in Kim Son district. He asked the forces to strengthen patrols to guard, protect the safety of dykes, dams, and key points according to the approved plan.

In this district there is rain and strong wind level 7-9."The whole province of Ninh Binh has not yet recorded human and property damage ," the provincial leader said.

Located close to the storm center, Thai Binh province at 23h has strong winds, accompanied by heavy rain. Many trees with 20cm diameter in Thai Binh city collapsed. Some electric poles also collapsed, forcing authorities to cut off electricity to ensure safety.

In Thanh Hoa, from 21h many areas have had strong rain and wind. In Nga Son district, the wind blew the roof of some houses, forcing people to evacuate at night.

Meteorological agencies forecast that in 12-24 hours, Thanh Hoa will continue to have heavy rain, the total volume of the whole series is about 100-200mm, there are places over 200 mm. The rivers will appear a flood with upstream water level of about 2-5 m, downstream 1-3m.

"The risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas, local flooding in lowlands in Thanh Hoa is very high," meteorological experts warned.

Located far away from the storm center, at 22:00 in Hai Phong, the wind started to intensify, pouring rain. The street is empty, except for some tractors carrying goods into and out of the port.

After 24 hours, after going to Nam Dinh - Ninh Binh, the first storm of the year has decreased in intensity and continued to go deep into the mainland. Localities such as Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh and Thai Binh have not yet recorded human damage.

Hanoi is located in the area affected by the storm so from 13pm start to have wind; until 22h heavy rain then stopped. From 24h, continuous heavy rain.

According to Le Vu Quang Suong, deputy general director of Hanoi Drainage Company, if the rainfall is over 100 mm lasting 2 hours, Hanoi will have 16 serious flooding points in 8 central districts . The concern is that storms cause heavy rain in large areas in the North, so the possibility of big rivers like Nhue, To Lich and Red River is high, making it difficult for the urban drainage.

Formed from the tropical depression in the East Sea, Typhoon Mirinae then advanced rapidly in the northwest, crossing Hainan Island (China), into the Gulf of Tonkin in the morning of July 27, strong level 9.

This is the first storm in the South China Sea this year. Previously there were 4 tropical depressions, but did not affect the mainland of Vietnam. Meteorological agency said that this year, the storm comes late and the number of storms and tropical depressions affecting Vietnam will be less than the average of many years, about 4-5 times.
