Typhoon Vicente hit Hong Kong, more than 100 people were injured

More than 100 people were injured and many trees fell down when Typhoon Vicente hit Hong Kong last night with winds of up to 140km / h, officials said today.

Officials raised storm warnings to the most serious level - level 10 - for the first time since 1999, when Typhoon Vicente rushed into Hong Kong shortly after midnight.

Until this morning, warning level 10 was reduced to level 8 when the storm moved west and weakened on the southern coast of China, but officials still asked people to be cautious.

'Wearing Vicente is moving slowly out of Hong Kong and begins to weaken, but strong winds still rage in many areas of the territory. People should still be wary , 'the Hong Kong Astronomical Agency said.

More than 600 trees were knocked down during the night and fragments of buildings fell to the streets in the center as people returned home after work the night before. People have been advised to seek refuge.

Ferry, train and bus services have been suspended or operated with reduced capacity. Hong Kong port was closed. 44 flights were canceled and another 270 were canceled.

The Hong Kong Stock Exchange was notified of a temporary suspension of trading today until the authorities announced that the weather conditions were safe enough for people to return to work.

Outpatient schools and hospitals were closed until further notice. Flooding has occurred in 5 areas.

Nearly 120 people received medical treatment, of which 15 were hospitalized, Hong Kong health officials said.

About 250 people have been evacuated to shelter centers. Local media reported that more than 100 train passengers had to stay overnight at the subway station Tai Wai, unable to go home after the train service was interrupted.

A landslide occurred in the Peak area but did not cause casualties.
