Tyrant dinosaurs cannot run for unexpected reasons

Two recent studies show that it is impossible for the Tyrannosaurus rex to chase a jeep as in Hollwood movies.

In the movie "Jurassic Park" or "Dinosaur Park", the guests were chased by the tyrannical T rex , but in fact, according to scientists, T rex could not run so fast when following prey.

Scientists have long argued about the running speed of giant birds and dinosaurs in ancient ecosystems. Contrary to the idea that this 6-ton predator has a maximum speed of 72km / h, researchers from Germany and the US have discovered that physical constraints prevented it from moving. faster than the speed of 27km / h.

Meanwhile, another individual study concluded that if T rex tried to run fast, they could have… broken their legs. And this makes their maximum speed even lower, only about 20km / h. Researchers claim that anyone who runs 100 meters in 13.3 seconds will give Tyrannosaurus rex . a smoke inhalation because that is far from the speed of this massive, aggressive but slow carnivorous dinosaur. .

Writing in Nature Ecology and Evolution, the researchers also revealed the speed of some other dinosaurs. A Triceratops can reach a speed of about 24km / h, a 78-ton Brachiosaurus will be able to run under 12km / h. But Velociraptor - famous in the films of Jurassic Park - can travel at 54km / h, Allosaurus is capable of over 40km / h.

Another project by the Manchester University team was published in PeerJ magazine, concluding that running was not physiologically beneficial for T rex. The lead researcher, Professor William Sellers, said any attempt to run fast would easily break T rex's legs.

He said: "T rex's ability to run and other similar giant dinosaurs has been thoroughly discussed in the paleontology community for decades. Here we present a new approach to combining. two separate biomechanics to prove that running makes T rex's bones unbearable . '
