US warns of a major earthquake risk in China
Although it is not possible to accurately predict where the earthquake will be hit in China, US researchers claim to have identified where seismic events might occur.
The study, published in the American Journal of Seismic Research, published on January 2, shows that the high-risk area stretches 60km on the Longmen Son road that separates the Tibetan Highlands with Sichuan basin in Southwest China.

This area is located in the Northeast of the Lo Son fault zone and is vulnerable after two earthquakes in Sichuan province in 2008 and 2013. According to experts, the risk of strong earthquakes, from 7 Richter levels or more, here is very high.
However, further research is needed on this issue because according to the earthquake risk assessment map prepared by the Global Earthquake Risk Assessment Program, the entire Longmen Son area of China is still a relatively safe area.
In 2008, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake in Sichuan killed more than 80,000 people and this is the worst earthquake in China since 1950.
Last year, more than 200 people were killed in the magnitude 6.6 earthquake in Lo Son.
