Vietnam has enough power to deploy space technology
Expected in early 2007, the Institute of Space Technology under the Institute of Science and Technology of Vietnam officially went into operation. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khoa Son - Vice Chairman of the Institute of Science and Technology interviewed about this event.
Mr. Son said:

According to the decision to establish the Space Technology Institute, this is the agency with the function of research and application of Space Technology. In the near future, there will be a draft of the approved functions, tasks and organizational structures. In the draft, the Institute of Space Technology is a non-productive organization under the Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology.
The Institute has the function of researching and developing the fields of space science and technology; perform the duties of the Space Technology strategy; deploying and applying space science and technology into practice and providing services on application of space technology.
* What is the first institute when in operation?
- The first and most important priority is that the Institute will focus on research and application of satellite technology, because this is the fundamental technology of Space Technology. This technology involves the design and fabrication of orbiting satellites and exploiting them effectively.
In this direction, the Institute will actively implement the project " Small satellite observing the Earth ". This is an important task assigned by the State to the Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology in the period from now to 2010.
The second is research and development of remote sensing technology, which is actually a technology to collect and use satellite images. After the satellite photography is sent to Earth, we must acquire it, integrate it into a database, analyze and exploit the information obtained according to the objectives such as research and management of environmental resources, disaster prevention or development planning.
146 million USD for Vinasat satellite
The project of launching Vinasat telecommunications satellite of Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (expected to be put into operation in the second quarter of 2008) with an investment of VND 3,854 billion, has just received a contract of sponsorship of USD 146 million. (VND 2,312 billion) signed by two Vietnam Industrial and Commercial Banks.
Third is the implementation of research related to the development of scientific basis for the above. These are the studies of cosmodynamics, the control of flying objects, cosmic materials, cosmic electronics .
* Are we eligible for immediate deployment of these jobs?
- To carry out the above professional tasks, in the first phase, the Institute prioritizes the task of building and perfecting the organizational structure, training researchers' resources, and step by step building and developing facilities such as laboratories, testing facilities, satellite assembly and collection stations, building integrated remote sensing data centers . These are both feasible and necessary areas that Vietnam It is possible to apply immediately, more really, we have the preparation process so we can say that it is " enough " to implement those problems. Remote sensing field has a lot of experience, while satellite technology has initially trained some professional staff.
* This is a new technology field, the Institute has prepared what to go into effective operation?
- Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology will soon make decisions on regulating functions, organizational structure and operation regulations of the Institute of Space Technology. Going forward, we will mobilize a number of departments to research and gather some of the Institute's existing scientific, remote sensing, and satellite scientists . as the initial core for the Institute of Universe Technology. cylinder. In addition to the forces we gathered, we had to recruit more young staff trained in their respective fields.
We also have a plan to arrange the necessary work area, equipped with the initial material conditions for the Institute's research work. In addition, the Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology is focusing on directing relevant departments, including the Space Technology Institute, to promptly complete the feasibility report for the small satellite project of the Institute to Submit to the Prime Minister as soon as possible.
