Vietnam - He cooperates to use nuclear for peace

The Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam and the British Foreign Ministry yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The above record comes from the fact that both Vietnam and the UK recognize the need to address challenges due to the increasing energy demand that both countries and the international community are facing.

In the framework of the memorandum, the two countries will cooperate in the areas of nuclear regulation; strengthening human resource capacity; research and development for civil nuclear power plants, radiation applications; enhance radioactive waste management .

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien said: "Vietnam has just started the nuclear power program. Therefore, the cooperation in learning and sharing the experiences of the countries have a public foundation. Advanced and experienced nuclear technology like the United Kingdom has special significance ".

"The effective cooperation with the UK contributes to the successful application of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes , " Tien said.

British Ambassador Antony Stokes said the memorandum affirmed the UK's emphasis on sharing knowledge and experiences about this important energy source with Vietnam.

In 2010, the Governments of the two countries signed a Joint Statement on Strategic Partnership, in which science and technology are one of the priority areas for cooperation between the two countries. Recently, the two sides have cooperated to implement a number of research projects, which have successfully implemented the first phase of the project: 'Genetic decoding of some native Vietnamese rice varieties' with complete decoding genome full of 36 rice varieties; established an interdisciplinary laboratory of biomedical medicine - pharmaceutical chemistry - a natural compound located at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
