VINASAT-1 satellites are officially commercially exploited

On the morning of May 30, VINASAT Satellite Control Station was officially launched, taking over the task of controlling and providing the first 6 services of exploiting telecommunications satellites of Vietnam.

After more than a month of "calibration" and testing to put satellites in orbit, VINASAT-1 responded to the first signals on 22/5, exactly 1 day before the deadline of ITU required Vietnam to have satellites operate on a 132-degree Eastern orbit. On May 25, information was connected to the Spratly Islands and offshore oil drilling stations.

"On May 22, the Ministry of Information and Communications issued an official document to send ITU to affirm the position of 132 degrees East which has operated by Vietnam satellites. This is a great effort of VNPT's officials and employees. and VTI contributed so that the project could be successful, "said Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Tran Duc Lai. "It is very gratifying that the trials in remote areas such as Truong Sa are successful. As you have seen, the signal transmitted to the LCD screens at the ceremony today is also very good. happy startups ".

Among the first services by the International Telecommunication Company (VTI), which is assigned to operate and operate VINASAT-1, there are 3 television services, including conference and service television Mobile TV and DTH television. Besides, there are 3 connection services including private channel rental, mobile trunking and fax, voice and Internet services.

Satellite control and exploitation station consists of 2 main parts. The control unit is responsible for operating satellites through 13.5 meter parabolic antennae in Que Duong (Ha Tay). Network Operation Center NOC operator (Network) is responsible for customer support in the field of connection and service exploitation.

At the inauguration ceremony of VINASAT-1 Satellite Control and Operation Station, Vietnam Television signed a contract with VTI, becoming the first official customer to use channel leasing service of VINASAT-1 (no calculating member units of VNPT). Currently, Vietnam Television has broadcast 4 television programs VTV1, VTV2, VTV3 and VTV4 on the wave of this satellite. All 4 channels use C + band with very wide coverage, covering the territory and territorial waters of Asia - Pacific.

To get this first contract, VTV and VTI had to work continuously for a year and a half because there was a lot of work related to frequency coordination, capacity conversion, changing and adjusting transceivers. signal, . However, all work so far has been completed and the transmission signal testing 4 TV channels via VINASAT-1 has very good image quality.

Representative of VTV, Mr. Phan Truong Dinh, affirmed that the first contract was not merely a business agreement. That is the commitment of VTV in cooperating closely with VNPT in exploiting and effectively using VINASAT-1.

"In our opinion, the national television signal broadcast on VINASAT-1 is an obligation and is also the responsibility of Vietnam Television. It is not only a means, but also their pride and affection. me, " said Dinh.

Business problem

Until now, the work of putting VINASAT-1 satellite on earth's orbit in the past 10 years has been successfully completed. However, it also opened a 20-year road ahead to effectively exploit this satellite. Business results of VINASAT-1 will be a premise for projects VINASAT-2, VINASAT-3 in the future.

Mr. Lam Quoc Cuong, Deputy Director of VTI, said that he had handed over the technology in less than a week, VTI and customers who wanted to use satellites promoted many jobs to convert satellites. VINASAT-1 commercial business plan has been prepared and ready.

Mr. Lam Quoc Cuong, Deputy Director of VTI: "With the bandwidth, coverage and cost of VINASAT-1, there will definitely be satellite service providers in this satellite area." (Photo: Hung Hai)

Following VTV, the immediate future will be the ministries, agencies, state enterprises, telecommunications enterprises. As expected, all domestic hubs can switch back to using VINASAT-1 in 2008. If convenient, 100% of satellite bandwidth will be put into use within 3 years. But it was a great effort. This effective first satellite business is considered an experience challenge.

"Based on its satellite reality, technical characteristics, coverage area, as well as the necessary conditions, cost and price, satellite capacity of regional and international providers. We built a flexible price list to meet customers' needs, ' Cuong said.

Recently, VTI has converted communication stations between Truong Sa and the mainland from foreign satellites to VINASAT-1. That is the initiative of VNPT Group and VTI is the direct implementation unit. For the oil and gas industry, VTI has also arranged technical staff and necessary equipment for drilling platforms to carry out the conversion. As of May 30, 2008, two oil and gas customers have converted from foreign satellite channels to use VINASAT-1.

VTI representative confirmed with VINASAT-1's band, coverage and price, there will certainly be satellite service providers in this area. Test signals using VINASAT-1 in Vietnam give better results than foreign ones.

In fact, VINASAT-1 is the satellite with the most modern technology among satellites flying in Asia-Pacific sky.

Dr.Mai Liem Truc: "During 10 years of negotiation and bidding, we always set the criteria to choose which partners have the most modern technology, ensuring the safest for both the launch process as well as the operation and use process. use later ". (Photo: Hung Hai)

"During 10 years of negotiation and bidding, we always set the criteria to choose which partners have the most modern technology, ensure the safest for both the launch process as well as operate and use later. Since the satellite has already been launched, no one has been there to fix it, we can only control it below because of the automatic control systems already installed on the satellite " , Dr. Mai Liem Truc, former Deputy Minister of Posts and Telecommunications (now TT-TT), said.

VINASAT-1 is built according to the A2100 series technology, which is the latest model of Lockheed Martin to date. In the coming time, the satellites will be launched if the same capacity with VINASAT-1 will certainly still use such satellite frames.
