A fisherman recorded the struggle between Nerodia sipedon and in Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA, on June 10, according to Viral Hog. He caught this scene when he came to the river to fish and take pictures.
"The big water snake swam across the river then turned to me. It was in a small corner and curled up as if to attack me," the fisherman shared. After a while, the snake suddenly rushed away and began to wrestle under the water. Its whole body curls up around the stone while its mouth snaps a catfish.
The fish belongs to the genus Ameiurus and is an invasive species for this area. Meanwhile, the snake is a native species, the cameraman said. He stopped recording to avoid disturbing the snake handling the meal.
Nerodia sipedon belongs to the family of water snakes, dark and non-toxic, living in many places in North America. Their prey is very diverse, including amphibians, fish, lobster, other snakes and small mammals.
