Researchers at the University of Hawaii say that people who gain weight at the beginning of adulthood can lead to prostate cancer, although this depends on race.
In general, obesity increases the risk of cancer, but Brenda Y. Hernandez, a University of Hawaii associate professor, discovered weight gain when a man begins to mature especially in relation to later prostate cancer.
In the paper published in the Journal of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, Dr. Hernabdez's team analyzed the health records of 84,000 white, black and yellow skinned men of these over 5,500. People who are diagnosed with cancer.
Genes and ways of life also make a difference in the risk of disease, says Dr. Hernandez. 'The relationship between properties such as stature varies with race and this is influenced by both genes and ways of life. Our study addresses the causes of cancer in different communities'.
Victoria Stevens, director of the American Cancer Society's laboratories, said there is a difference in the likelihood of being infected by race, but this difference is not direct. However, this is still a very interesting study.
