WiMAX is currently one of the hot topics that the technology community in the world as well as in the country care about. There are too many questions about WiMAX technology. So what is WiMAX technology?

Wimax is old but new, maybe for many people who are interested in keeping an eye on WiMAX development, it is very clear. But for many people it seems to be a difficult issue to grasp because in Vietnam there is no formal telecom service provider to bring WiMAX into commercialization, harnessing its potential.

Therefore, there are many questions raised around this issue.

What is WiMAX technology?

WiMAX is a technology based on the 802.16 standard that provides wireless access services anytime, anywhere. WiMAX products can be used in fixed or mobile types.

The 802.16 standard was developed to provide non-vision (NLoS) connections between subscribers and stations with a Cell's radius of 3 to 10 km.

All stations and subscribers using WiMAX technology must undergo rigorous testing for WiMAX Forum certification. The WiMAX Forum certification system can expect to provide WiMAX capacity up to 40Mpbs on a channel.

It has enough bandwidth to support hundreds of businesses simultaneously with T-1 connection speeds and thousands of users with DSL connection speeds. The WiMAX Forum expects to deploy mobile networks with capacities up to 15Mpbs in a standard Cell with a radius of up to 3 Km. WiMAX technology is ready to combine with laptops and PDA handsets to provide mobile wireless internet access anytime, anywhere.

What WiMAX services will be delivered to users?

WiMAX will provide broadband connections anytime, anywhere for any device type and on any network system such as:

- High-speed internet access in remote outback areas.

- Basically, speed up data transmission for services such as Online Games, Streaming Video, Video Conferecing, VoIP and other basic defined services.

- Offering wireless Internet access and access costs at a competitive price comparable to internet services via Cable, DSL and fiber optic cable.

- .

Key components of WiMAX technology?

A key part of WiMAX is portability between WiMAX Forum certified devices. Devices from many different brands can be easily replaced, which ensures service providers when purchasing equipment from other vendors.

The WiMAX Forum has built a consortium of leaders in the computer and telecommunications sectors to provide a common development platform for the global development of IP-based broadband wireless services. Other main components are:

- Low cost

- Broader coverage: The technology behind WiMAX has been optimized to provide better NLoS coverage. The advantages of NloS are coverage in large areas, better coverage than expected and lower costs, which means less number of stations and less backhaul, single frequency planning. simpler, lower station houses and faster CPE installation time. Techniques to enhance NLoS coverage area such as: Diversity, coding in space and time, automatic retransmission requirements (ARQ).

- Higher capacity: One key advantage of WiMAX technology is the use of Edge, GPRS and HSPA orthogonal frequency division modulation to provide efficient bandwidth utilization and thus transfer speeds. More basic data, with more than 1Mpbs downstream and high data rate. Adaptive modulation also enhances the reliability of the connection for transmission layer operation and may be between high modulation levels and long distances.

- Standards for use models (Fixed and mobile): WiMAX technology will become the most cost-effective solution for suppliers when deploying for any usage model from landline destined for mobile. WiMAX Forum certifies products with portability and adaptability based on IEEE802.16 standards.
