Where is male sperm the weakest? Please say that in this country full of surprises!
In 2017, scientists in Denmark came up with a worrying study. Research on the phenomenon . sperm quality decreases with the rate of social development.
Within four decades, male sperms count in European industrialized countries has halved. And according to a recent study, the downward trend is still going on with a more serious level.
The study was published in Andrology magazine. This time, the scientists followed and evaluated, and gave a ranking of sperm quality in European countries.
As a result, men in Switzerland - a country famous for being rich and worth living - have the lowest sperm quality.
Switzerland is the country with the lowest sperm quality in Europe.
Research leaders are experts from the University of Geneva. They collected data on sperm quality of more than 2500 young men, ages 18-22 and are in the military. Candidates come from all Swiss states, in order to get the research sample spread across the country.
Sperm quality is assessed on three criteria: quantity, mobility and shape . In Europe, adult sperm count ranges from 41 to 67 million / ml. According to the assessment from WHO, the amount of sperm below 15 million / ml can make a person difficult to reproduce, even infertility.
Research shows that Swiss men have an average sperm density of only 47 million / ml, the lowest in Europe and far behind those of Germany, Denmark and Norway. At the same time, up to 17% carry sperm levels below 15 million / ml.
"It is important to know that the time required for fertilization will increase if a man has a sperm density below 40 million / ml," - Serge Nef, professor of genetics at Geneva.
"Tragedy" for Swiss men has not stopped there, as research shows that 40% of their sperm has problems moving, and up to 43% produce less than 4% of sperm sperm often. In total, only 38% of Swiss men who have sperm meet the healthy standards provided by WHO.
"These indicators may reflect the ability of men to have children, and when the indicators are low, the risk of infertility will be higher," said Rita Rahban, research author.
But why is sperm quality so low?
Too low sperm quality increases the risk of testicular cancer in men.
The answer is essentially unconfirmed , but according to Rahban there are some possibilities. First, experts found that men with low sperm quality often had mothers using tobacco while pregnant . In addition, it can be an unhealthy lifestyle : using alcohol, tobacco, obesity . or some psychological causes such as long-term stress .
Besides the problem of infertility, too low sperm quality also increases the risk of testicular cancer in men. In Switzerland, data show that the rate of testicular cancer has increased after several decades, from 7.6: 100,000 in 1980 to 10.4: 100,000 in 2014.
"In the past 35 years, the number of testicular cancer has increased steadily, and is currently high compared to other European countries," Nef said. "The quality of sperm in countries with high rates of testicular cancer is also lower than normal."
