Eating lots of fat is considered to reduce sperm quality

Men 's diet, especially the amount and type of fat they eat, may affect semen quality, a study published in the journal Human Reproduction said.

>>>Control the sperm's gene

Research by GS. Jill Attaman at Massachusetts General Hospital and colleagues performed on 99 men in the United States showed an inverse ratio between the amount of fat consumed with low sperm count. They also found that men who eat omega-3 fats (usually in fish and vegetable oils) have better sperm quality than those who eat less.

According to the researchers, if men change their diet by reducing saturated fat and increasing the amount of omega-3, they can not only improve overall health, but also improve reproductive health.

The amount of fat eaten is inversely proportional to the number of male sperm.

Many previous studies have also found a link between body mass index (BMI) and sperm quality, but the results are still inconsistent. Until now, the role of fat in sperm quality has been little changed.

From 2006 - 2010, GS's research team. Attaman investigated volunteers on the diet and analyzed their semen samples, measuring the amount of fatty acids in semen and semen plasma of the participants.

The results showed that people who ate more fat had 43% less sperm and 38% lower sperm density than those who ate less.

Research also shows that the relationship between fat and sperm quality depends on the amount of saturated fat consumed. Men who eat a lot of saturated fat have a 35% lower sperm quality than those who eat less, and sperm density is 38% lower.

People who mostly eat omega-3 fats have slightly higher sperm counts (1.9%).

However, the researchers stressed that this small study needs to be redefined by further study of the role of fat in men's sperm.
