Why do strange things happen all year round in Than Duong Loan?

It is rumored that there are rare animals such as thousand-year-old pythons and flying squirrels running around at the bottom of the valley. What is even more amazing is that the neighing of thousands of soldiers and horses can often be heard from the bottom of the valley. So what is going on here?

In 2014, reporter Sun Ba went to Zhangjiajie, China to take photos. After completing the assignment, he became interested in local customs and started chatting with a villager.

The conversation was initially cheerful, but when Shentang Bay was mentioned, the villagers' expressions changed. They mysteriously told Sun Ba that Shentang Bay was a dangerous place with towering peaks and always covered in clouds, and even the locals did not know what it looked like inside.

Sun Ba thought that this was nothing to be afraid of, it was just a natural phenomenon. Seeing his doubts, the villagers continued to say that the most frightening thing about Shentang Bay was that every time it rained, there would be waves of war horses neighing and war drums beating, as if thousands of soldiers were fighting.

After hearing this, Sun Ba's curiosity was piqued and he asked the villagers to take him to see what had happened. Unexpectedly, the villagers refused. The villagers said that Shen Tang Loan was a forbidden area, and for nearly a thousand years no one had dared to enter, so even if they passed by, they had to be careful.

Furthermore, the above mentioned things were only a small part of Shentang Bay, there were also giant pythons and flying monsters, there were people who had seen these things with their own eyes, it was not just a rumor. After hearing this, Sun Ba was a little scared, so he temporarily gave up the idea of going to Shentang Loan.

After returning, he could not forget Shentang Bay and decided to go to Zhangjiajie again, this time he consulted Professor Ze, a geological expert. Professor Ze told him that the phenomenon in Shentang Bay was not rare, there was also a similar canyon in Peru, there was a fierce war there thousands of years ago, then every time it rained, it would make a sound like a war.

The reason is that there is Magnetite (a magnetic iron mineral) there, which interacts with thunder and lightning when it rains, creating a kind of 'natural recorder' that records the sounds of war. After listening to Professor Trach's story, Ton Ba could not regain his composure for a long time, he never thought that such a scene could form in nature.

He then bid farewell to Professor Ze and continued to Zhangjiajie. He sought out the villager from earlier and wanted him to believe that the sounds in Shentang Bay were not supernatural phenomena, however, what Sun Ba did not expect was that after hearing his story, the villagers immediately denied this statement.

The reason why the villagers were so sure was because no magnetic materials were found near Shentang Bay. In order to find out the truth, Sun Ba felt that he had to go there himself. He found some staff from the geological department and followed the villagers' instructions to Shentang Bay. They used tools to detect the composition of the mountain. It turned out that there was only quartz sandstone here, with no trace of magnetite. Sun Ba was even more confused, what exactly was that sound?

The geologists could not explain this phenomenon, and due to the weather conditions, they could not go further and had to turn back. When they reached the halfway point of the mountain, the sky suddenly became dark and it started to rain heavily. Sun Ba was moved and wanted to hear for himself the sound that the villagers had said.

After coming up with this idea, Sun Ba suggested that they go down the mountain later. Although the staff were a little scared, they still agreed to his suggestion. They found a place to shelter from the rain and held their breath to listen. Not long after, they heard sounds coming from Shentang Bay. The sounds really sounded like thousands of troops were fighting. As the rain gradually subsided, the sounds gradually disappeared. They quickly went down the mountain and returned to the village.

When the villagers heard what happened to them in Shentang Bay, they were also shocked, they did not expect that the legend was true. For a while, the whole village talked about it. Although Sun Ba had personally experienced it in Shentang Bay, he still did not believe that this happened due to the influence of supernatural forces.

Sun Ba then contacted Professor Ze and invited him to Zhangjiajie. In order to investigate the truth of the matter, Professor Ze came with a team of experts. As soon as Professor Ze arrived in Zhangjiajie, he first asked the villagers for their experiences. The villagers said that there were many stone frogs in Shentang Bay and many people speculated that it might be the sound they made. But both Professor Ze and Sun Ba thought it was impossible, because the sound of Shentang Bay could only be heard when it was windy and rainy. They had been to Shentang Bay before and it was quiet all around.

They decided to go to Shentang Bay again to discover the truth for themselves. Just as they were about to go to Shentang Bay, they found a stone frog beside the roadside creek. Sun Ba looked at the stone frog and could not believe that it could make the same sound as Shentang Bay.

Professor Ze also agreed, he believed that the stone frog was not the source of the sound. They continued forward and reached the entrance to Shentang Bay. They began to prepare the tools to go down the mountain. Due to his old age, Professor Ze could not go down the mountain himself, but could only stay on the top of the mountain and direct everyone to use cameras to record the situation below.

The two people in the group tied the rope and slowly walked down. Everyone present held their breath, not daring to relax at all. At this moment, a miserable scream suddenly came from below. Sun Ba trembled with fear and did not know what was happening. Professor Ze was very calm, immediately picked up the walkie-talkie, and contacted the staff below to ask about the situation. It turned out that while going down, they found a giant python skeleton on the cliff, scaring them to the point of screaming. Professor Ze breathed a sigh of relief and asked them to take the python skeleton and continue. A moment later, the communicator transmitted the good news, the two staff members had reached the bottom safely.

After scanning the topographic map, Professor Ze observed it carefully, then excitedly shouted : 'I know what the sound of Shentang Bay is!'. He took the topographic map and explained to everyone: ' The topography of Shentang Bay is like a bottle. When the wind blows into a bottle, a narrow valley, it creates a large air flow, which is the sound we hear. Moreover, this sound also changes according to the weather and humidity, so sometimes it sounds like a battlefield, sometimes it sounds like a ghost crying, howling. This is a completely natural phenomenon and has nothing to do with the supernatural .' After listening to the explanation, everyone suddenly realized that the mystery of Shentang Bay had finally been solved. This story tells us that science and legends do not contradict each other but complement each other, helping us understand the world better.
