Why do young people need to re-learn handwriting?

Computers and handheld devices are replacing paper and pencil, which makes some educators think it is important to teach writing to students? Although there are ideas that handwriting is an unnecessary skill, researchers have confirmed that handwriting helps children pay attention and understand language better.

"It's a myth that handwriting is just fine motor skills (the ability to manipulate hands and fingers, this is the basis for developing the artistic abilities of hands and practicing beautiful writing). Dr. Dinehart believes that children have formed handwriting skills early on, even before kindergarten and they are getting better and better. Ms. Dinehart also discovered that what is taught in kindergartens will help children develop skills to complete complex tasks. These tasks require coordination of cognitive and neurological processes.

Karin James of Indian University conducted experiments on brain scans in children who can't write."Their brains are no different from characters," she explained. James continued to conduct other tests after the other children were taught to write and she discovered interesting things. The part of the brain that reacts to the characters indicates an increase in the connection of reading, even though the children are still in the early stages of learning to write. "The characters they create are very messy and constantly changing, but they are great for kids to learn everything. This seems to be a great benefit of handwriting," said James.

However, typing does not produce reactions on the brain and enhances reading comprehension like handwriting.
