Young people are killing themselves because the diet is too low for vegetables

The diet of young people, not only in Vietnam but also around the world, is inadvertently increasing the risk of causing them to die early.

In a large-scale survey from the Ministry of Health in 2015, up to 60% of young Vietnamese did not eat the average amount of vegetables recommended by the WHO to be 400g / day. Meanwhile, Vietnamese people only eat vegetables on average of 170-200g / day, while the amount of meat absorbed is increasing.

This means that we are eating too little vegetables, although everyone knows that a diet high in vegetables is always considered good for health.

But you know, a recent report also showed that vegetables and fruits can help prevent millions of deaths every year, as long as you eat enough of the required vegetables. And the "enough" number here is bigger than what WHO recommends.

Eating a lot of these things will help you not die early.

Specifically, the report from Imperial College London (UK) analyzed over 95 studies of vegetables and fruits.

They estimate that 7.8 million people a year can avoid death by eating "10 parts" of fruits and vegetables a day, equivalent to 800g.

In this 800g, you can eat 400g of vegetables and 400g of fruit as you like. And to make it easier to imagine, an average apple weighs about 182g. However, for fruits with high levels of vitamin C such as oranges, lemons . you should limit your intake too much.

Previous studies have shown that eating less meat and vegetables may reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. But this study also showed that if eating up to 800g / day, the risk of heart disease decreased by 24%, stroke decreased by 33%, cancer decreased by 14% and by 31% the risk of premature death.

In particular, the fruit should be eaten to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease including apples, oranges, lemons and some vegetables such as propeller. Cabbage, pepper, and green beans have effects on cancer.

But at the end, eating a lot of fruits and vegetables will help you not die early? Experts do not specify, but they believe that the basic nutritional ingredients in vegetables will help promote health.

" Vegetables can reduce cholesterol, lower blood pressure, improve blood vessel tolerance, and boost the immune system, " said Dagfinn Aune, research director at Imperial College London. "Probably because of the amount of nutrients they hold, like antioxidants."

However, eating such a lot of vegetables is also a big challenge, not only for young Vietnamese but also in many countries around the world.
