World copper reserves are sufficient for 100 years
Monash University Australia has just published research results showing abundant copper reserves for global consumption.
Scientists have just completed a database of estimated mineral resources based on announcements from mining companies. Since then, the copper reserves are plentiful, significantly limiting social and environmental concerns for future copper production.
The results of this study contradict previous estimates that the world will run out of copper in the next 30 years. The reason for the discovery is that there are still large reserves of copper in the reach of modern technology. That means with the development of technology it is possible to exploit a large amount of resources in the long run.
However, the issue of workers' rights, cultural impacts and environmental damage may affect the feasibility of exploitation and production.
Monash University researchers say there are plans to build databases for other base metals such as nickel, uranium and cobalt.
