Yahoo launched a virtual job social network
Recently, Yahoo officially launched an online virtual social network exclusively for students and commuters - Kickstart virtual social network.
But Kickstart Yahoo is more 'network' than 'social'. If you only look at the user will see Kickstart almost identical Facebook. But the key difference between these two social networks lies in the way users display profiles.
On Yahoo Kickstart, users' profiles will be displayed in resume format instead of personal advertising like other social networks. The goal that Yahoo Kickstart wants to aim at is to help users find jobs, find collaborative projects, practice . Kickstart is really useful for students who are graduating and looking for work but there is a 'seniority' using a virtual social network.
However, building a virtual social networking job is just an immediate goal of Yahoo. Recently, the Yahoo product development team announced the launch of the FireEagle platform. This is the technology platform that allows tracking information about the user's location through global positioning.
Currently FireEagle is in the pre-testing stage. The launch schedule as well as the official name has not been decided yet. FireEagle is expected to be introduced to the user community at the end of this month.
Yahoo really has had a lot of trouble building its image in the virtual social networking market. Recently the company announced plans to close Yahoo 360 Blogs service. However, it is still difficult for Yahoo to give up a growing market like a virtual social network. The company still has other strategic cards.
