The Daily Mail reported that Boston University researchers have been monitoring the eating habits of 80,000 women over the past 22 years.

They found that women who drank two glasses of orange juice daily faced the risk of gout - a form of arthritis - that was twice as high as those of homosexuals who didn't have that habit. Even a glass of orange juice every day increases the risk of this disease in women by 41%.

Experts believe that high levels of fructose (fruit sugar) in fruit juice cause uric acid - a waste product in the blood - to penetrate the joints, making them swollen and very painful.

According to Boston University scientists, their findings reaffirmed the importance of reducing fructose tolerance to maintain human health.

Gout is a metabolic disorder associated with increased production or reduction of excretion of uric acid in the body. The urate crystals settle in the joints and organizations around the joints, causing an inflammatory reaction. The disease is common in middle-aged men.

Preliminary statistics show that the disease has " attacked " 1.5% of the UK population, in which men seem to be 4 times more at risk than women. However, the number of female cases has doubled in the past 20 years.

Gout is thought to be related to an insatiable diet, including excessive alcohol or red meat, and lack of exercise. Adjusting your diet can help you prevent this disease.
