15m long monster never seen before 'rises' in the middle of the Egyptian desert

A new member of the largest family of monsters to ever walk the continents has been found in an oasis in the Western Desert of Egypt .

According to Sci-News, the monster fossil revealed 5 back vertebrae and 12 appendages, helping paleontologists estimate it must have been 10-15m long when alive.

The new monster, named Igan Semkhu , belongs to the titanosaurus family , or "titanosaurs" , which are the largest dinosaurs and also the largest land animals to ever walk the planet.

The new monster was found from the sediments of the Quseir Formation in the Kharga Oasis , in the Western Desert of Egypt. It lived about 75 million years ago, near the end of the Cretaceous period - the golden age and also the last era of dinosaurs.

Like other titanosaurs excavated in North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, Igai Semkhu, despite its size, was just a small. individual in this great dinosaur family.

Some other titanosaur species found in South America are tens of meters long and weigh up to nearly 70 tons.

According to the research team led by paleontologist Eric Gorscak from Ohio University (USA), this new creature also strengthens the hypothesis of an isolated Eurasian branch of Cretaceous titanosaurs, as well as the fact that North Africa and Eurasia shared common terrestrial tetrapod populations during this period.

The unique study of Igai Semkhu has just been published in the scientific journal Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology.
