2 color lotus

While the morning jog in West Lake in South Korea, China, Li Guoqiang discovered a lotus flower with half of it being pink, half in white.

Every summer, the lotus blooms and covers this famous lake. The morning jog around the lake is still a daily activity of amateur photographer who loves lotus. But at 7:30 am on Saturday, August 4, the unexpected happened to Li Guoqiang when the half-white and half-pink lotus caught his eye. After a moment of stupidity, he did not miss the opportunity to photograph that rare flower.

There are more than 15,000 lotus flowers in West Lake, all pink. This is the first time people have seen 2-color lotus here."It could be a natural genetic mutation," said Wei Ya, a plant genetic researcher at Fudan University. Factors such as ultraviolet rays, chemicals or extreme weather can cause gene mutations in plants.

Blooming lotus is the most attractive attraction in West Lake more than 87,000 m 2 . Lotus often hatches in late June and early July, but this year has hatched earlier due to temperature and humidity changes.

The 2-color flower wilted yesterday due to rain and hot sun. Officials in the area plan to preserve the lotus seed to multiply next year.
