2 new fungal species in Nam Cat Tien

Associate Professor - Dr. Le Xuan Tham, deputy director of Ho Chi Minh City Nuclear Center (VN Atomic Energy Institute), said that two new fungal species were discovered in Nam Cat Tien forest: lattice mushroom and luminescent mushroom. These are two valuable fungi of food and medicinal herbs, first found in the southern region.

The nematode mushroom has the scientific name Dictyophora indusiata belonging to the family of Fisch, used as precious food in China, Taiwan and Japan. In China, this mushroom is cultivated quite popular and used as a medicine.

Meanwhile, in Vietnam, luminescent fungus phenomenon is considered as a 'ghost' and sometimes used to mark in the dark night. The new luminescent fungus was discovered by Dr. Tham and artist Vu Manh Tu, Ho Chi Minh City Cinema Association, in the area of ​​Heaven waterfall, Nam Cat Tien national forest, Dong Nai.

According to Associate Professor - Dr. Le Xuan Tham, is studying to complete the process of cultivating the two above mentioned fungal species.
