365,000 euros for climate change adaptation project

On March 28, the Project 'Building a climate change adaptation strategy for the Vam Co river basin' has been implemented to leaders of departments, professional management, mass organizations, enterprises and staff. specialized department of districts in Vam Co river basin, Long An province.

The project has a total cost of over 365,000 Euro, of which the Netherlands
support 312,786 Euro, the rest is reciprocal by Long An.

The project content includes assessing the impact of climate conditions at the present time and future forecast; assess the impact of different adaptation measures on flood risk, flood tide and sea level rise, saline intrusion damage; linking the participation of localities in the planning process; disseminate replication of lessons learned; develop strategies to promote research results, expand and strengthen knowledge networks .

According to Ms. Huynh Thi Duyet - Deputy Director of Long An Department of Science and Technology, the above project aims to build a pilot model to assess risks and impacts of climate change and sea level rise on the basin. Vam Co river belongs to 4 districts of Can Duoc, Can Giuoc, Chau Thanh and Tan Tru. At the same time, develop a climate change adaptation strategy based on community input. When the pilot project is effective, Long An will replicate in the localities in the province to apply appropriately.

The project 'Building a climate change adaptation strategy for Vam Co river basin' ends at the end of 2012.
