A Christmas storm hit the snow record in Erie, Pennsylvania, the United States and surrounding areas.

A storm of storms broke the snow record in Erie, Pennsylvania, the United States and surrounding areas. Houses, cars and trees were buried under 1.3m thick snow.

On December 25 alone, the storm hit 86cm of snow - a record never seen in Erie history, according to the National Weather Service Office.

December 26 to receive a smaller amount of snow - 48cm - bringing the total up to 134cm. This is the largest two-day snowfall in Pennsylvania.

The city of Erie, located on the shores of Lake Erie, has declared a state of emergency for snowfall.

The city of Erie, located on the shores of Lake Erie, has declared a state of emergency for snowfall, saying that the street is " very dangerous and cannot be passed". The city government also asked residents to stay indoors until the snow stopped and traffic returned.

Police also advise people not to travel because of low visibility and bad weather conditions.

Many local people have posted photos on social networks, expressing surprises.

Meteorologist Davide Wolter wrote: 'This is crazy. 1346mm snow in two days'.

Meanwhile, Mike Richwalsky said: 'I grew up in Erie but never saw snow fall like this in 24 hours. This is crazy'.

Snow fell so thick that in many places, cars disappeared.
