The extremely cold weather caused heavy human and property damage especially in the western provinces of Herat and Badghis. Many roads were submerged in thick layers of snow. In the meantime, the rain of snow did not stop falling. Food and fuel prices rise.
In the face of the worsening situation, the World Food Program (PAM) has requested international assistance for supplies for 2.55 million Afghans who are struggling with natural disasters before the country enters the crop next June
Statistics in many localities show that there are no stops in the number of deaths due to coldness, most of them are children. In some parts of Ghazni, many people died from exhaustion when walking many miles to temporary centers when their cars were caught in the snow. In addition, snowfall caused numerous traffic jams, making rescue groups unable to reach victims. Ghazni provincial government has called on the Afghan government and international humanitarian aid organizations to organize air cargo shipments in mountainous areas.
Currently, there are still more than 50% of poor villages still isolated from urban areas because the places are submerged in snow.
