Specimens of wa-za clones are collected in limestone mountains in the eastern part of Cao Bang province at an altitude of 400-650m above sea level. A special feature is that this species is not living along streams but living in limestone valleys or cave gates, quite far from water sources.

The main identification feature of the new frog is the length of the head and body 27-38mm, the mouth has no sugar cane teeth, the muzzle is quite long and round in the front, no skin spines on the eyelids, no skin lashes in the heel , smooth skin, no serrated skin fringe along the arms and legs.

In addition, the face on the head and body is greenish-gray or mossy, with a brown y-shaped streak on the back, face on the limbs with dark horizontal stripes, creamy throat and abdomen with darker veins. A detailed description of the new species is published in the German Diversity & Evolution Organisms magazine.

A related information: Chinese scientists have just announced a new species of frog with the name of gangster Gracixalus nonggangensis Mo, Zhang, Luo, Zhou & Chen, 2013.

Remarkably, the specimen of this new species was collected in Quang Tay province, not far from the sampling area of wa-za clones in Cao Bang province. New species in China has morphological characteristics similar to that of wa-za.

However, due to the announcement of the Chinese scientists group later (February 2013) compared to the group of Vietnamese and German scientists (November 2012), according to international law on animal nomenclature, the species name The gangster-gang is only considered a synonym of the wa-za tree.
