The new frog has the scientific name Rhacophorus helenae sp. nov (also known as helen tree frog). The researchers discovered them during the survey from Nui Ong Nature Reserve, Binh Thuan Province to watershed protection forest in Thac Mai, Tan Phu and Dong Nai.
To honor the contributions to the discovery of new species in Vietnam by Helen M.Rowley, the author announced using her name as an adjective for the name of this new frog.
Rhacophorus helenae is quite large in size, male body 72.3-85.5 mm long, female from 89.4 to 90.7 mm.
According to the Vietnam Forest Biology website, the frog species have facial features on their backs and heads green or blue with white spots. They have large foot membranes, skin folds on the wide arms that help frogs to throw from high trees.
