"Salmon not only makes sediment layers move," said Alex Fremier, research director. "They change the characteristics of stream beds, so when the water flows, the amount of soil, sand and gravel entangled will become more and more". As a result, the underlying rock foundation gradually expands, increasing the risk of erosion for the whole area.
