Meeting this condition, usually have to move the baby gently to continue breathing. However, in developing countries, both lack of care workers or inexperienced nursing staff, when it is noticed that the baby's breathing stops, it is too late. That's why the student group Rachel Alexander, Rachel Gilbert, Jordan Schermerhorn, Bridget Ugoh, Andrea Ulrich of the Department of Biotechnology from Rice University (Houston, USA) studied the invention of breathing and anti-breathing devices. Apnea called Babalung.

Babalung equipment set

Babalung device set includes a chest strap with sensor attached to the control box. When the baby respects, the device will continuously monitor, if the breath is normal, the screen on the sine wave display box is uninterrupted. If your baby stops breathing for 20 seconds, the engine in the strap will be activated to wake him up. If the baby still stops breathing for the next 5 seconds, the control box will glow to alert health workers to take timely action. Sound alarms are also considered, but the team is afraid that it will affect the hearing of newborns.

Students who have tested more than 50 times (mostly on themselves) show that the warning of apnea has not been erroneous. Coming up will be real tests on premature babies who need special care. The price per set of devices Babalung is $ 25 and the team hopes to lower the cost of mass production. They are planning to bring three prototypes to hospitals in developing countries for testing.

According to Gizmag, Babalung's research and development is part of a traditional program called Borders of Rice University.
