The Portable Eye Examination Kit (PEEK) , developed by physicians in London and Glasgow, UK, can help diagnose eye conditions through a smartphone.
A set of equipment for eye examination is quite cumbersome and cost more than £ 100,000 (equivalent to 3.3 billion). Meanwhile, cameras and smartphone processors, which cost about £ 300 (about 10 million dong), can now provide diagnostic results comparable to expensive ones. Install Portable Eye Examination Kit.
With the Portable Eye Examination Kit, physicians can assess the patient's vision by pressing repeatedly on small letters on the screen of the smartphone. After that, the doctor will use the camera to check the transparent lenses located inside the eye. And by attaching a special lens to the camera and the flash, doctors can examine the retina at the back of the eye and give accurate diagnosis.
Mirriam Waithara, a Kenyan who has been living in a neglected area for many years. However, medical staff used PEEK to diagnose and detect her cataract. Soon Mirriam was examined and cured with some simple treatments.
