However, the main collection method is still manual method, workers use rake and net with net. The productivity of this method is not high because the garbage on the water is always moving and dispersing continuously, on the other hand when boats and canoes moving to collect garbage will create flow, pushing garbage away, both difficult for workers just make the garbage sink to the bottom, it is very difficult to collect.

In order to limit the disadvantages of traditional garbage collection and waste collection of some non-automatic garbage collection equipment, engineer Hoang Tu Cuong, Saigon Transportation Engineering Corporation, has studied fabrication of automatic waste collection equipment on the river.

This device is like a conventional ship but has two separate bodies , floating-type, linked together by the deck frame higher than the water surface, the head of the hull is attached to the garbage arm. Therefore, when the ship moves, it will create a flow carrying floating garbage into the hull of the vessel. Garbage will be automatically collected in the middle of the hull and dumped into containers without having to rely on the strength and manipulation of workers. The ship includes such parts as the main deck, steering gear, steering drive, anchor, mooring device, lifesaving equipment, fire equipment and signaling devices .

Currently, Saigon Transportation Engineering Corporation has transferred technology to a number of units in Ha Long, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
