Battery-powered submarine

The German Navy's Howaldtswerke Deutsche Werft shipyard claims the U212A, the name of its latest supersonic submarine, 'the pinnacle of German submarine technology '.

CNN said the U212A was the first supersonic submarine to operate on hydrogen fuel cells, not nuclear power or diesel as conventional submarines. So it moves under the water without causing any noise or heat. This factor is very important, according to Bernd Arjes - a captain of the German Navy - submarines that emit loud noise, the higher the probability of detection.

' U212A is designed to look for other submarines. If you want to find other submarines then of course you have to be silent. With the latest technology from Germany, the U212A is almost undetectable , "Arjes said.

But the ability to ' stealth ' (hard to detect) is not the only highlight of the U212A. While traditional submarines need oxygen to burn diesel in the engine, the U212A's battery does not need oxygen. That means it can dive for weeks, many times longer than other submarines.

The U212A is equipped with 12 heavy duty torpedoes. Each torpedo is capable of destroying a warship or causing a carrier to stop functioning.

"The aircraft carrier can not be sunk by a torpedo, but they can stop working if the torpedo hits the rudder or something. In that case, the ship could not pick up the wind to take off , "Arjes said.

Because most of the machines on the U212A operate automatically, it does not need as many sailors as the traditional submarine. In addition, the space for sailors is not large and the facilities for their lives are not many.

Germany does not have nuclear weapons and nuclear-powered ships, but it is the third largest exporter of weapons.
