Bird flu still makes Indonesia 'headache'

A spokesman for the Avian Influenza Information Center said: "The girl died on April 5. Through two tests, we confirmed that the girl was infected with bird flu virus." The 15-year-old girl received special care at a hospital in Jakarta. She is the 93th bird flu case in Indonesia.
A 29-year-old man with signs of H5N1 infection also died in Solo, an area 500km from Jakarta. Tests also confirmed that he was infected with bird flu.
Most people who are infected are exposed to sick poultry. The Indonesian government recommends that people abandon the habit of raising poultry in the home. They are trying to prevent the spread of this dangerous pandemic.
According to the latest statistics of the World Health Organization, since 2003, 288 people have been infected with avian influenza virus, of which 170 have died. Most cases are concentrated in Southeast Asia.
