Bird's nesting skills are not genetic

Bird's nesting is not a natural skill but something that must be learned and improved by experience.

According to UPI news agency, experts at the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) filmed the Southern Masked Weaver birds in Botswana when they nest during the breeding season.

Nesting skills of species of birds are different between this group and the other. Some build nests from right to left while others work in the opposite direction.

Experts find that the more they build, the more they drop fewer grass leaves, which means that building a nest, for them, is a learning process.

"If the bird nested in a genetic pattern, you would think all the birds would nest in the same way ," said lead researcher Patrick Walsh.

'However, this is not the case. The Southern Masked Weaver displayed 'variations' in their nesting, showing a clear role of experience. Even with birds, there is a day of iron grinding , 'Walsh added.
