Jane's horror began when little Molly (2 years old) held the keys while the whole family was in the school of her brother - Joseph. She played with the keys and did not expect to get a small battery ( button pin ) from the key. Unfortunately, she put the battery in her mouth and swallowed it. Right now, Jane's sister was really panicked.

This battery is very dangerous in humans, it can burn an adult throat in less than 1 hour. For young children, this time is much lower. Molly was immediately taken to the hospital so the doctors could promptly remove the object from her body. After anesthetizing Molly, the doctors proceeded to remove the object from her stomach by bringing the tube down to her throat.

Jane said: 'For any parent, holding onto your hand when you're being anesthetized is one of the most terrible times. You have to be strong and show you are not afraid even though you are trembling inside in terror. ' Jane had been waiting outside the door of the operating room for an hour with uneasiness, anxiety, until doctors showed up that Molly was safe, she felt relieved.

The surgery was successful, the doctors informed Jane that Molly must be extremely lucky to be able to survive. If the battery is in Molly's esophagus or intestine, it can cause her to die in less than an hour. However, Molly's stomach lining is injured and requires 6 weeks of medication to prevent ulcers. Fortunately, Molly has recovered well. Sister Jane said, she and her family now have all the keys out of Molly's reach.

Jane is now urgently urging her parents to beware of the potential risks of Christmas toys this year. Many toys will use this battery and if children swallow it will be extremely dangerous. She advises parents to learn carefully and keep their children from these dangers.

She added: 'To this day, I still feel shocked about the dangers of these batteries as well as their availability in children's toys'.

Why is the button button pin dangerous?

Pin button or Lithium battery is a very dangerous type of flat battery because children can be confused, thinking that candy and their size can be stuck in the child's throat. When the battery gets stuck, it creates an electric current when in contact with the esophageal mucosa, from which the formation of squamous caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) causes severe burns. Even if the battery is removed from the body, it can continue to cause serious injuries and burns.

Although the new battery is more harmful, the used, outdated batteries are still dangerous and parents are advised to store or dispose of them carefully. An experiment on hot dogs showed that it burned and melted bread in just 3 hours.
