Can detect Alzheimer's disease for decades

By testing the virtual labyrinth, scientists can detect people who are likely to suffer from Alzheimer's for decades.

By testing the virtual labyrinth, scientists can detect people who are likely to suffer from Alzheimer's for decades.

The test helps early detection of Alzheimer's disease

The study was carried out by German and Dutch scientists and published in Science magazine on October 22.

Accordingly, people aged 18-30 are allowed to pass a virtual maze to check the function of brain cells . An MRI machine will record the image of the brain when the test takes place.

The results showed that people at high risk of Alzheimer's disease (genetically) took longer to reach the center of the labyrinth. Brain scan images also show that the entorhinal cortical region in them has decreased activity.

According to the scientists, this finding may help to better understand Alzheimer's disease, while opening up the possibility of finding new treatments for this memory impairment.

"The risk factors for Alzheimer's are varied, including age, genetics and lifestyle. This study is very important, allowing us to clarify the effect of each factor on patients , " said Dr. Laura Phipps of the Alzheimer's Research Center said.

Alzheimer's disease is a common memory impairment. Current treatments only help reduce a small part of the disease symptoms but cannot prevent or slow the progress of the disease.
