"The results of this study are very promising. We have conducted on three models in the laboratory, and tested in cartilage cells, mouse tissue to get the desired results. Then we want to demonstrating the results of this study in humans, " said Ian Clark, professor of musculoskeletal biology at Norwich University.
Previous studies have found sulforaphane to have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. But this is the first major study to show its impact on health, Guardian said.
More than 8.5 million people in the UK suffer from osteoarthritis, a degenerative disease that affects the hands, feet, spine, hips and knees. It is predicted that the number of people treating this disease will increase sharply in 2035.
"So far, studies have not shown which foods or diets can reduce the progression of osteoarthritis. So if these findings are applied in humans, it will be a step in disruption. "Said Alan Silman, medical director of the British Center for Arthritis Research.
