A senior official in China's space program revealed that the Thien Cung 1 space station will definitely fall to Earth in 2017 at a press conference held last week, according to Xinhua. Currently Thien Cung 1 station is still intact and is flying around orbit at an altitude of about 370km.

"Based on our calculations and analysis, most parts of the space station will burn during the fall," said Wu Ping, deputy director of China's manned space engineering department. .

Chinese authorities said they will continue to monitor Thien Cung 1's movement and will update the planned time of the fall to the ground. They did not announce the possibility of controlling the Heavenly Palace 1, but based on the prediction of its fall time being too wide, experts speculated that the space station might have surpassed China's control.

The Thien Cung 1 station is 10.3m long, the first manned space station launched by China in 2011 and finished in March this year. Since then, many astronomers have observed that Thien Cung 1 seems to be floating indefinitely out of control and heading towards Earth. The silence of the Chinese government makes the experts more certain.
