This is the second largest gold mine that Chinese geologist ever discovered in the Ili valley. Earlier, Beijing found the first mine with reserves of 50 tons in 1988.

According to the Division of Natural Resources and Geology, the gold mine is located in the Tianshan Mountains area, west of Xinjiang. It is also located on the Narat-Hongliu River mineral belt along with gold mines in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Therefore, some geologists say that this area is likely to have some other ore mines that people have not found.
