In southwestern China, archaeologists have found fossils of an ancient long-lived marine species that lived millions of years ago. This "water monster" is said to be present before the dinosaurs. In the abdomen of fossils are embryos and researchers say it gives birth to babies, but does not lay eggs.
New aquatic monsters found a 2 meter long neck and lived before dinosaurs.
Archaeologists identify this species as Dinocephalosaurus , 245 million years ago today in the Triassic. The discovery of fossilized sea fossils has made the previous assumption about the evolution of vertebrate animals completely changed.
Mammals or some reptiles include snakes and lizards are animals that give birth to babies. They do not lay eggs like birds. Lieu Quan paleontologist at the University of Technology Hefei Dinocephalosaurus is the first of a group of vertebrates, including birds, crocodiles, dinosaurs and reptiles.
This species has the longest neck among any species ever discovered. They are about 4 meters long and the neck is 1.7 meters long. Dinocephalosaurus has fins like paddles, small heads, mouths with large teeth and snout to hunt fish.
"I think people will be surprised to see the image of this creature with a small head and mouth full of teeth," said Mike Benton , a paleontologist from Bristol University (UK).
Biologists think that without spawning, this aquatic species has many advantages. When babies are born, they can adapt immediately to the marine environment. If laying eggs, other terrestrial mammals can eat the whole egg.
