China: Pile the foundations, discover 10,000-year-old rare objects
One has just discovered one is believed to be of the elephant living about 10,000 years ago, the Hoa Nam Post Office reported in the morning.
Ivory fossils were discovered in Shaanxi, China.
Yin Faping farmers saw ivory pieces on November 13 when he prepared to dump the foundation in Han Yin District, Shaanxi Province, China.
When assembled together, 13 pieces of fossils form ivory about 1 meter long and weigh 4.8kg.
Officials from Shaanxi Geological Survey Center were called. They identified fossils dating from - starting around 10,200 BC (BC) and extending to about 4,500 - 2000 BC.
This is the second most important elephant discovery in the region after a milk teeth fossil was found more than 30 years ago.
The expert identified the ivory as an elephant that lived about 10,000 years ago.
Researchers say ivory can help understand more about local history.
The district's cultural relics agency is temporarily holding precious fossils and proposing to transfer it to the Northwestern University Museum in Xi'an City for research purposes.
