Chinese doctors have created medical masks that cover only the nose for convenience of eating and drinking

A medical mask created by a doctor at a hospital in Shanghai, China will help them to eat and drink more easily while protecting their nasal passages.

According to China News Service, Dr. Jiang Jinjun from the pulmonology department of Zhongshan Hospital, Shanghai has created a whole new mask prototype . This mask is compact and only covers the nose, making it easier for doctors to eat and drink.

Dr. Jiang said that it is worrisome that medical staff after spending hours working with patients will have to remove masks while eating."Doctors and nurses work long hours and we have to remove masks to eat or drink. Although the time needed to eat is quite short, the risk of infection is still very high," he said.

After working together to develop a group of four others, Jiang and his doctors filed for a patent on Feb. 10 in the hope that these masks could be mass produced.

Two manufacturers, Luolai Group and Shanghai Longhon, have agreed to produce this mask. By the end of February, more than 20,000 masks had been transferred to hospitals in Wuhan.

However, after this product was shared on social networks, the online community said that this type of mask is not as useful as its use.

One said: "Well done. Now all you need to do is stop the virus from getting into your eyes and mouth and you have to do something to solve this problem." In other words, this person is concerned that the virus may still be transmitted by mouth or through the eyes.

According to health experts, SARS-CoV2 virus is usually spread through droplets when a person coughs but there is no specific evidence of how they are spread through the airway. Therefore, doctors recommend that everyone should wear a mask to avoid spreading droplets containing virus to the environment and indirectly to others. Pay special attention to using a facemask after the patient leaves the room or refuses to enter the room until enough time for the air to filter out.
