Chinese farmers find rare ancient spiders

A Sichuan farmer found a rare spider with a coin shape underneath it, one of the earliest spiders in China.

Farmers Li Wenhua found the spider in the family's orange plantation in Bo Jiang village near Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in southwestern China, on November 14, according to People's Daily. When researching on the Internet, Li discovered a spider belonging to the Chinese spider spider , whose scientific name is Cyclocosmia ricketti or "li shi pan fu zhu" in Chinese.

Zhao Li, director of the Western Chinese Insect Museum confirmed Li's findings and said that belly-carrying spiders are of very high value. This is one of the earliest recorded spiders in China."The spider is very valuable in terms of scientific research. It is an extremely rare species in Sichuan. I have spent a lot of effort searching but have never met any children," Zhao said.

Spider belly has been seen only six times in Sichuan province since 2000, according to Chengdu Business Daily.

Zhao also said the spider had a trait that matched the description in the ancient Erika . Published in the 2nd - 5th century BC, Nhi Nha is one of the oldest retention dictionaries of China.

Wenhua intends to sell the spider to pet keepers and hopes to get a high price.
