Chinese pandas set a new record

According to Xinhua, the first baby panda of the new Year of Pig has just been born in China. Along with that, 3 new records were also made.

Experts at the Wolong Research Center in Sichuan Province said the pandas' breeding season is usually autumn. So this is the first baby panda born early in the new year . The mother of the baby panda, Ji Ni, is the oldest mother bear of the Center and it also sets the record for the longest fertility mother bear.

According to Xinhua, the panda has survived the first three important days of his life, and his health is very good. It is only about 13.2 cm long and weighs 90g when born. But up to this point, baby pandas have gained weight and are developing well.

Panda is one of the most endangered animals. There are only 1,600 left in the world, with 180 currently living in animal conservation centers - half of them belong to Wolong Center. Raccoons have a low fertility rate because they are often 'less active' in relationships. So Chinese scientists had to use artificial insemination to develop the race of pandas. Last year, 19 baby pandas were born at this Center, of which 17 live and grow healthy.

In 2006, the total number of baby pandas born and healthy worldwide is 34.
