Chinese people rush to buy clean bottled air from Canada

A Canadian company 's sales to China have produced soaring bottled air recently due to increasingly serious pollution in the mainland.

Moses Lam and Troy Paquette founded Vitality Air, the company that produces clean, bottled air, in 2014 in the city of Edmonton, west of Canada. They started shipping goods to China about two months ago.

"Our first shipment was 500 bottles of fresh air. They were sold out in just four days," said Telegraph Moses Lam.

Initially, air products were vacuum-packed for nearly 1 USD. Currently, the company has produced large compressed air bottles, at a price of 46 USD / product.

A shipment of more than 4,000 bottles is being exported to China. According to Moses, most of this shipment has been ordered.

Most of the company's customers are citizens living in major cities in northeastern and southern China, where the air is heavily polluted.

The company's Chinese representative, Harrison Wang, said that their customers were mostly rich women. They buy air bottles for home or as gifts. However, many families and even night clubs also need to buy this product.

"In China, fresh air is a luxury, precious , " Wang said.

He said some distributors contacted the company to sell the product. The biggest challenge for Vitality Air now is to keep up with demand because the air bottles are hand-packed.

On December 7, Beijing first raised the warning level on red alert, the highest level in the air pollution warning scale. Today, Shanghai authorities issued orange warnings when the entire city was engulfed in thick smoke. In response to this situation, Chinese people restrict leaving home or wearing masks and even oxygen masks on the road.

In addition to Shanghai, the Nanjing City of Jiangsu Province is also affected by fog. Nanjing city government issued a yellow warning about pollution on December 14 when most areas in the province had a view of less than 3 km. Beside the cold air flow, emissions from local factories are one of the factors that make the fog appear dense in Jiangsu. As forecast, the mist will spread to Taiwan island.
