Researchers at the University of Connecticut in the United States are studying the fabrication of colors that suit the mood or the surrounding environment. Yarn dyed fabrics made of polymer can change color when the current passes through.
When connected to electricity, the polymer absorbs light over a range of wavelengths that are visible. So far, researchers have created fibers that can change from orange to red to blue.
A control will change the electric field on some points of the fabric, changing colors to create a pattern that fits the wearer's environment.
