Combining HIV and flu drugs to combat corona virus

The Ministry of Health has announced that it has used anti-HIV drugs in combination with anti-influenza drugs, successfully treated patients with nCoV pneumonia.

A 71-year-old Chinese patient with pneumonia caused by a new strain of corona virus had a negative result with nCoV after 48 hours of treatment with the above combination regimen, officials said on 2 February.

Dr Kriengsak Attipornwanich, who participated in the treatment, said: "From the previous exhausted state, the patient could sit up in bed after 12 hours. And after 48 hours, the positive test result with nCoV was transferred. to negative ".

Doctors combine oseltamivir flu medication with anti-HIV medications including lopinavir, ritonavir to treat patients. The Thai Ministry of Health continues to conduct further research on the efficacy of this drug combination in the treatment of new strain of corona virus.

To date, Thailand has detected 19 cases of nCoV infection, the majority of visitors from China to Thailand. A Thai driver contracted the disease on January 30. Currently 8 patients have recovered and returned home, 11 patients are still hospitalized.

The outbreak of acute pneumonia caused by nCoV began in Wuhan in December 2019, then spread to all of China's 31 provinces. As of February 2, the number of deaths due to nCoV increased to 305, including one in the Philippines. More than 14,500 people were positive for nCoV. 25 countries and territories reported nCoV-infected patients. 328 patients infected with the new strain of corona virus recovered and were discharged from the hospital. Medical experts from the US, China, Hong Kong . are still trying to prepare and test the vaccine to treat nCoV.
