Condoms thin less than 45 microns extracted from grass

Micro fiber extracted from grass allows the creation of tougher condoms and is less than 45 microns thick.

According to Dr. Nasim Amiralian at the University of Queensland, spinifex is a common name for grass covering 30% of Australia. They are different from grasses also called spinifex that grow in coastal areas, popular on three continents. The evolutionary pressure in harsh semi-desert conditions makes spinifex grass rich in nanofibers (nanocellulose), a tiny fiber that helps plants retain water and resist harsh sunlight.

The IFL Science reported, Amiralian found that the unique long and thin nanofibers in spinifex plants can be easily and cheaply extracted from the fibers of other plants, while also making the product more durable. Amiralian sought to introduce this fiber into rubber latex material.

" We check the durability of condoms made of this material by injecting it into it to measure volume and pressure. This condom can withstand more than 20% pressure and has a volume greater than 40. % compared to conventional condoms, " said Professor Darren Martin, head of the lab where Amiralian works, said.

" We can reduce the condom thickness to about 45 microns (1 micron = 0.0001 cm), equivalent to the width of the hair on the head.
