Contraception increases the risk of breast cancer

Hormonal contraceptives such as oral medications and rod implants can increase a woman's risk by 38%.

The more you use hormones , the more likely you are to have breast cancer. According to CNN, this is a new conclusion given by scientists from Copenhagen University (Denmark) after 11 years of data analysis of 1.8 million female volunteers under 50 years old.

Specifically, in the New England Journal of Medicine, the authors said that women "plan" with oral, injectable, and under-one-year breast cancer risk increases by 9%. If the usage period is over 10 years, the risk is up to 38%.

David Hunter, a professor of epidemiology and medicine at the Nuffield Population Health Department (UK), said the relationship between birth control pills and breast cancer has long been known. However, the work of the Danish group of scientists has shown "no method does not bring risk" , including new methods such as sticking implants.

Although contraception with hormones increases the risk of breast cancer, Professor Hunter reassures the woman that the risks will diminish when discontinued. Moreover, in fact, breast cancer is still relatively rare in young women. If you have entered the age of 50-70, the time when your risk of breast cancer is highest, contraception will not affect your body.

Besides, Mr. Hunter pointed out that contraception by hormones helps repel, and."This effect lasts 1-2 decades while the risk of breast cancer does not last long," the professor said. "In general, these measures can bring more benefits than harm."

In order to support the health protection sisters, Professor Hunter recommends that women from the end of their 30s or older should discuss with their doctors about non-hormonal contraceptives. In addition, he called on the scientific community to step up research to find the optimal "plan" , completely harmless.
